DSP Singh detained in gold smuggling case

Kathmandu, April 29
Police have detained the officer who recovered the body of one of the mules involved in a high-profile smuggling cases that has been grabbing the headlines for the last few weeks.
DSP Prajit Singh, who recovered the body of Sanam Shakya, had been called to District Police Office Morang to record his statement in the case. According to a police source, Singh was detained on Sunday after his statement was found to be ‘unsatisfactory’.  The source said that an investigation has been launched to press homicide and organised crime charges against him.
On March 2, Singh and his team had recovered the body of Shakya from a vehicle in Biratnagar, an area outside of his jurisdiction. The officer has been saying that he travelled up to Dharan and Biratnagar to look for the owner of the 33.5 kg gold, Chudamani Upreti.
ASI Balkrishna Sanjel, who accompanied Singh to Biratnagar, has also been held.
