Province 1 Chief Minister asks PM to strengthen provincial governments

Chief Minister of Province 1, Sherdhan Rai, says the federal government should make special efforts to strengthen provincial governments, stating serious questions have been raised against implementation of federalism and role of provinces.

He suspects that some forces which are trying to make federalism a failure might be moving around Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and the Prime Minister should break those circles to effect success of federalism.

“We should not let those wishing for failure of the country and problems in implementation of federalism feel encouraged,” Rai says in an interview , “All chief ministers have unequivocally told the Prime Minister that he should make the provincial governments stronger.”

He demands rights of handing medium level projects and related offices be handed over to provincial governments.

“We hope that the Prime Minister is positive.”

In another context, Rai says efforts are underway to fix the capital and name of his province in consensus.
